The Bed & Breakfast association of New Zealand in conjunction with Vision Insurance has announced the 2020 award winners for excellence in hosting. The Overall Supreme Bed & Breakfast of the Year winner award went to Garth and Angie London of Whakaipo Lodge in Taupo, having won the Exceptional B & B of the Year category award.
The judges, who included TIA CEO Chris Roberts, commented the Lodge resonated the owners’ core values and treating every guest as the most important person in the world. “Their commitment to sustainability both with Whakaipo Lodge and the environment is truly inspiring and epitomise what bed and breakfast hosting is and what we all should be aiming for.”
The 2020 Rising Star Bed & Breakfast of the Year was awarded to Brooke and Tim Tremworth of Relax at Red Earth Gardens, Tuakau and the 2020 Essence of Bed & Breakfast of the Year was awarded to Gary Mitchel and Robert Day of Ribbonwood Country House, Cheviot.
COVID-19 restrictions meant the annual gala awards dinner was cancelled however members, judges and entrants dressed up in their finery to watch the announcement and to raise a toast to celebrate via Zoom.
Highly commended award winners were:
Exceptional B & B of the Year – Ribbonwood Country House, Cheviot and Warblers Retreat, Albany.
Rising Star B & B of the Year – Aston Road Villa, Waikanae.
