It’s official, the people’s votes have been counted and local restaurant, Tandoori Mahal Indian & Nepalese Restaurant has won Menulog New Zealand’s 2015 Tasty Takeaway Awards.
The awards by Menulog.co.nz are in their second year. Tandoori Mahal – located at 331 Dominion Road, Mt Eden and open for just three years – has been chosen by fans as the most popular takeaway restaurant in New Zealand.
The premier awards for takeaway restaurants recognise establishments that provide great-tasting food, value for money and superior customer service.
“These awards provide insight into what New Zealanders seek from their takeaway, our vision for these awards is for them to become a calendar-fixture among foodies eager to see their favourite restaurant gain national recognition,” said Menulog spokesperson Julia Snabl.
“Tandoori Mahal Indian & Nepalese Restaurant are leading the way in the world of takeaway here in New Zealand and having been chosen by the public, this achievement recognises their hard work,” said Ms Snabl.
Over 500 restaurants competed in this year’s Awards and the national winner, Tandoori Mahal, receives $1,500 in cash.
“We would like to thank our customers for voting for us and promise to continue the same level of service that we are known for,” said KK Bhattarai, co-owner of Tandoori Mahal Indian & Nepalese Restaurant. KK Bhattarai owns the family restaurant with his son, Tez, and wife, Tika.
“We started in 2012 with a small team of hardworking staff and are very pleased to know that our hard work has paid off. Menulog has an efficient system that works for customers and businesses and winning this award means a lot to us,” said Mr Bhattarai.
Tandoori Mahal’s menu includes popular Indian favourites like Butter Chicken and Rogan Josh as well as authentic Nepalese food including Kathmandu Momo, Sekuwa and Chicken Gorkhali.
To vote in the 2015 Tasty Takeaway awards, New Zealanders simply logged on to Menulog.co.nz and selected their favourite restaurant. Voting closed on 30 September.
