A cashew-based feta style vegan cheese has taken the supreme winner title at the 2022 Vegan Cheese Awards.
Judging was held at The Butcher’s Son in Auckland by The NZ Vegan Society, were 30 entries in nine cheese categories were tasted and examined by food industry experts. After two hours of tasting Casheta by Savour was chosen as the overall 2022 winner for its feta flavour, appearance and seasoning.
The 2022 category winners are:-
CREAM CHEESE
Winner – The Green Larder; Cashew Cream Cheese (Smoked)
Runner Up – Hapi; Sour Cream
MOZZARELLA
Winner – Zenzo
Runner Up – Angel Food
SURFACE RIPENED AND BLUE
Winner – Moa Bakery Cakery; Blue
Runner Up – Let Them Eat Vegan; Creamy Camembert
FETA
Winner – Savour; Casheta
Runner up – Let Them Eat Vegan; Herbed Feta Crumbles
SOFT CHEESE
Winner – Savour; Casheta
Runners up – Let Them Eat Vegan; Creamy Camembert Spread, and Savour; Chipotle
COMMERCIAL AND FLAVOURED CHEDDAR
Winner – Zenzo; Cheddar
Runner Up – Nu Dairy Sliced Cheddar
FLAVOURED CHEESE
Winner – Sonntag; Cumin Gouda
Runners up: Savour – Ash, and Savour – Chipotle.
