Some of New Zealand’s best chefs will showcase their favourite recipes in a new web series ‘Ignite the Chef in You’, just launched at Ignite Colleges cookery school in Manukau.
Filming for episode one kicked off with Clooney Head Chef Nobu Lee creating a mouth watering dish of lamb and oyster tartare with oyster aioli and sea plants.
Ignite’s Level 3 and 4 cookery students assisted with food prep, taking on the role of commis chefs.
“It’s an invaluable chance for our culinary arts students to work alongside these amazing chefs who are at the pinnacle of their careers,” says Ignite Colleges General Manager Jasbir Kaur, who worked on the web series with creative director Nathan Simon.
A highly regarded chef herself, Kaur has hosted television and radio cooking shows in New Zealand and USA and has cooked in some of the finest restaurants in the world including Barcelona’s Michelin-starred Disfrutar.
“These sessions enable industry newcomers to talk to top chefs about their dishes, learn from tasting, and have the chance to network. The web series is also a great way for passionate home cooks to gain an introduction to the work of some true New Zealand master chefs, pick up new techniques, and develop their own culinary expertise.”
The series kicks off on July 20 and will feature ten award winning chefs, including household names Des Harris and Giulio Sturla. Sturla also whipped up a storm in the Ignite Colleges training kitchens this month, creating paua with duck sauce, cauliflower puree, fried parsnip and shiso leaves for episode two. Recipes will be posted at the end of each episode, and next year Kaur plans to release a cookbook publishing all the dishes created throughout the series.
“I hope this web series inspires young people who are considering becoming chefs by highlighting the brilliance of some of our most renowned industry talent. It also gives people the chance to try making world-class restaurant dishes in their own homes.”
