Matua Pinot wins New Zealand Wine of the Year in China

MatuaMatua took out a Trophy and five medals at China’s biggest and most prestigious wine and spirits competition, the 2014 China Wine and Spirits Awards (CWSA).  Wines and spirits from 35 countries were blind tasted by 100 accomplished judges.  All the judges were importers, distributors, retailers and sommeliers, meaning the entries were tasted by some of China’s top buyers of wine and spirits.

The Matua Lands and Legends Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012 claimed the ultimate title of all of the New Zealand wines entered, winning the Trophy for New Zealand Wine of the Year and Double Gold.  The Treasury Wine Estates’ (TWE) portfolio of New Zealand brands, also including Squealing Pig, Shingle Peak and Secret Stone, had a strong competition across the board.  Those three brands collectively received four Gold, two Silver and two Bronze medals, in addition to the Double Gold and Trophy for Lands and Legends.

A range of TWE Sauvignon Blancs from vintage 2014 impressed the judges, who awarded Gold medals to Secret Stone Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Matua Regional Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Shingle Peak Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2014 and Squealing Pig Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014.
