Doughnut and coffee chain, Krispy Kreme, has officially opened today bringing their trade mark Original Glazed doughnuts to New Zealand for the first time in its 80 year history.
In order to be the first three people through the door of Krispy Kreme’s first NZ store, a trio of Auckland women spent 36 hours camping out. Shannice Godkin was the first in line winning a year’s supply (a dozen a week) of doughnuts. Her best friend Sarah Benioni who was second in the line won a six month supply and her cousin Tee Felise, third in line, walked away with a one month supply. Reflecting their number in line, the first 100 people in the queue to enter the brand new store in Ronwood Ave in Manukau all received a numbered t-shirt.
“Over the years, we’ve been overwhelmed by the demand from Kiwis for Krispy Kreme to hit these shores and we are now extremely excited to be finally have launched in New Zealand, making it the 35th country in the world to enjoy our much-loved sweet treats says Andrew McGuigan, CEO of Krispy Kreme, Australia and New Zealand
“Our renowned Krispy Kreme ‘Hot Now’ sign is switched on, our Auckland store isopen for business and customers can expect to enjoy the authentic Krispy Kreme experience – warm, melt-in-your-mouth doughnuts, barista-crafted coffee and much more.”
Our doughnuts are also made daily, so fresh means made today; nothing less.”
McGuigan concludes: “Our new Auckland store will offer Aucklanders a retail shop and drive-thru and we expect as many as 180 new jobs to be created as a result of this new opening.”
Aucklanders will be able to enjoy doughnuts hot off the line at Krispy Kreme’s state of the art new facility, which features two production lines, which when running at full capacity, can create 4,320 of the sweet treats every hour. In a year the machine can produce enough doughnuts to stretch from Auckland to Sydney and beyond. If stacked on top of each other, the number of doughnuts produced in a day would make 18 Sky Towers.
