KFC launches mental wellbeing initiative

New Zealand ‘s KFC group has established ‘KFC for Good’, a foundation created to give back to communities it operates in, as well as their 3000 employees across the country.

The company says after conducting research to understand where KFC could support New Zealand communities, a common thread came through – there was a need for more support of people’s mental wellbeing.

The mission of the ‘KFC For Good’ Foundation has been established to champion causes that equip young Kiwi adults with the skills and support to enhance their wellbeing.

KFC’s ten-year long partnership with Surf Life Saving NZ, will sit within the foundation, with KFC having raised $1.58 million for the organisation over the past 10 years, and pledges to continue the much-needed support for this cause.

A cornerstone of the foundation will be a newly-formed partnership with Clearhead, a social enterprise tackling one of New Zealand’s major challenges facing young people – mental wellbeing.

As a new partner, KFC has committed to fundraising on Clearhead’s behalf, to raise awareness and provide access to the programme, so more New Zealanders can work on their mental health journey.

KFC CEO Arif Khan says: “As a brand we have a responsibility to give back to our community and our team, so we’ve established KFC For Good to support fellow Kiwis.

“Physical and mental wellbeing is fundamental to everyone, and through our partnership with Clearhead as well as our ongoing work with Surf Lifesaving NZ, we hope we can make a tangible, positive impact for New Zealanders.”

Clearhead was established by Dr Angela Lim, and is a new way for Kiwis to access mental health help, with it being used by HR teams across the country.

“The Clearhead app connects people to the support they need as soon as they need it. We have a modern therapy booking and appointment management system, and for those people who prefer a self-directed approach, we offer proven self-help tools and an intelligent Wellbeing Assistant, 24/7. We are excited to welcome KFC to the Clearhead family and they’ve told us they want to do more,” says Clearhead’s Dr Angela Lim.

“We are so lucky to have an incredible team of employees across the country, and we’re thrilled that every KFC crew member will now be able to access mental health and well-being tools available through Clearhead.

“We want our crew to feel supported wherever they are – whether that’s at work or at home,” says Arif.

KFC’s first fundraising initiative is the release of a limited range of KFC Mid-Winter Christmas jumpers and vests available at www.kfcforgood.co.nz , with 100 percent of all proceeds going to funding Clearhead subscriptions for members of the community.

The company says this will be the first of many fundraising events under the KFC for Good Foundation. Furthermore, KFC will be sponsoring Clearhead subscriptions and access to funded therapy to 1000 people in need every month.
