Get in quick – Mental Health fundraiser almost sold out!

A major fundraising event in Auckland to support mental health awareness in the New Zealand hospitality industry has just two tables left to fill!

On Thursday August 6 Auckland Zoo’s newly completed venue centre, Te Puna, will host both its inaugural event and a joint industry fundraiser called From The Pass, by NZ Chefs and the Restaurant Association of New Zealand, to establish an online Mental Health awareness programme. To date 29 tables have been filled.

As a passionate supporter of improving the high workloads, poor work/life balance and stressful work that contribute to poor mental health, Chef Nathan Ward has teamed up with the Restaurant Association and NZ Chefs to deliver a gastronomic five-course benefit dinner.

Actor Aaron Ward will MC the event, which includes an on site auction for sponsor donated prizes including an oven from Moffat and stays at luxury resorts Bay of Many Coves in Queen Charlotte and Mangapapa Lodge, in Hawke’s Bay.

Chefs Nathan Ward, Nic Watt, William Mordido, Carlos Atkinson, Jamie Robert Johnston and the Montana Catering Company will provide fine dining for 140 guests to raise awareness about the stigma of mental health which is a serious, everyday matter for many working in restaurants, cafes, bars and hotels.

Proceeds raised from the fundraiser will go towards establishing an online platform to educate and support both employees and hospitality businesses in mental health awareness, anxiety and depression, with the support of the Mental Health Foundation.

“The key objective is to create a positive and encouraging workplace through education, compassion and awareness. We need to rebuild our industry post-Covid-19 and take proactive steps to support individuals and keep them safe from the harmful effects of stress, ” says NZ Chefs’ Janine Quaid.

“We want to attract talented Kiwis and help them to develop their hospitality careers on our own shores with support, culture, decent salaries and an achievable work/life balance and where they are treated with dignity and respect.”
