A design based on the Greek God Erebus produced by a self-confessed craft beer buff is the winner of craft brew bar 16 TUN’s beer badge design competition.
Formerly from Rotorua and now living in Auckland, Te Rangi Ropata designed the beer badge for Outlier Cartel craft beer. His design now becomes the official tap badge for the brand’s latest brew, Erebus’ Warden.
Te Rangi frequents 16 TUN in support of his passion for craft beer. During one visit he overheard brewer and 16 TUN duty manager Carlos De La Barra talking excitedly about his new brew, so decided then and there to enter the competition.
The winning design took Te Rangi only as long as it takes to drink a pint and a half of pale ale to complete and incorporates Greek terracotta paintings with a nod towards Disney’s Hercules. Carlos says the colours match perfectly with a golden stout beer.
“We chose Te Rangi’s design because it encompassed the spirit of the beer and brilliantly referenced the Greek god Erebus. We had more than 60 entries, so thank you to everyone who took part in the competition. We’re now looking forward to showcasing Erebus’ Warden at our launch party.”
Te Rangi says, “I’m honoured to be chosen as the winner and cannot wait to try this exciting new craft beer. Thanks to 16 TUN and wishing all the best to Outlier Cartel”. He wins a $200 16 TUN voucher and gets to go to the launch party for the new brew.
Carlos and his mates’ Outlier Cartel craft beer range hits the taps at 16 TUN on 4 December at the launch party. Te Rangi’s beer badge takes pride of place on the Erebus’ Warden tap.
