Wellington-based premium gelato producer Carrello del Gelato is opening a ‘Gelato Concept Store’ today, 30 November, at 228 Oriental Bay in time for summer.
The new concept store will stock 16 flavours of gelato and sorbetto made by Wellington’s most awarded gelato producer enabling gelato devotees to sample the latest flavours in-store or take home 500 ml and one litre packs.
Company founder and chief executive Nathan Meyer said, “We’ve long wanted a retail outlet to showcase our gelato and sorbetto range. Oriental Bay is an ideal location and the store’s design reflects the fun element inherent in gelato. We look forward to meeting old friends and winning over newcomers to our gelato in Oriental Bay.”
Carrello del Gelato has introduced new flavours to coincide with the opening of the store including a Mandarin Sorbetto, Cannoli Gelato and Grape Sorbetto.
This has been a big year for the company which won the Product Innovation Award at the MiNDFOOD Producer Award Awards, part of the Visa Wellington on a Plate culinary festival, and in May picked up eleven awards for its gelato and sorbet at the New Zealand Ice Cream Awards. These included a Gold Award and the Best of Berries category for its Raspberry Sorbet, Gold Awards for its Vanilla Gelato and Blackberry & Cassis Sorbet; and Silver Awards for its Feijoa Sorbet, Passionfruit Sorbet, Mexican Spiced Coffee Gelato, Pumpkin Pie Gelato, Café Latte Gelato, Mint Stracciatella Gelato and Salted Caramel Gelato.
Nathan Meyer said, “Opening the Gelato Concept Store enables us to provide a unique customer experience, something that we haven’t been able to do before as a producer, and at the same time raise the profile of the Carrello del Gelato brand.”
