Ay Caramba expands into popular Mexican foodservice range

Mexican retail food products supplier, Ay, Caramba has expanded its retail range to include food service size offerings of its most popular products.

The company offers an extensive range of authentic Mexican ingredients and ready-to-eat dishes; and is the exclusive distributor of several brands including Minerva Mexican craft beer, La Chata ready-to-eat dishes, and Mezcal Agasajo liquor.

Joining the existing retail range will be food service size offerings of nopales – Mexican cactus, whole and ground tomatillos, Clamato (a popular drink made using tomato and clam broth), green sauce, sliced and whole jalapeno, achiote paste, chamoy (a traditional condiment), and Mexican craft beer.

Ay, Caramba currently supplies its products to a wide range of Mexican restaurants across New Zealand, including Frida, Taco Taco, and Taco Loco in Auckland, and Viva Mexico and Rosie’s Red-Hot Cantina in Wellington.

Founder Arturo Luna says that the expansion into food service size products will allow the business to further grow its distribution and is a welcome opportunity as the company looks to widen its offering.

“Taking the next step into food service size products is really exciting for us as we look to supply more restaurants and distributors with our authentic Mexican products,” says Arturo.

“As with many Kiwi businesses, 2020 was a challenging year and we have experienced delays in deliveries due to Covid-19. However, we are looking forward to an exciting next stage of business and welcome new stockist enquiries.”

While some of Ay, Caramba’s products are already well received by Kiwi food enthusiasts – including Mexican beer, tajin (a chilli, lime and salt seasoning), cactus, and jalapenos – founder Arturo Luna looks forward to introducing more unique Mexican flavours to the Kiwi palate as Ay, Caramba expands.

“We’re excited to introduce more New Zealanders to delicious and authentic Mexican food as we grow,” says Arturo. “All of our products are as authentic as it comes, so Kiwis can enjoy the true taste of Mexico – particularly while we’re unable to travel.”

Alongside Ay, Caramba’s expansion into food service size products, its sister brand Remarkable Tortillas, which manufactures corn and flour tortillas and ‘totopos’ (corn chips), will be undergoing a rebrand this month. The brand currently supplies wholesale to Mexican restaurants and chains, and through distributors including Bidfood, Gilmours, Moore Wilsons, and Trents.

Remarkable Tortillas are hand crafted fresh in Auckland using traditional Mexican recipes and the finest white, yellow and blue corn masa imported directly from Mexico. The rest of the ingredients are sourced locally, including wheat flour grown on the Canterbury Plains.
