Go with Tourism and YoungTEC have partnered to deliver a mentorship programme for New Zealand students interested in pursuing a career in the tourism industry.
The ‘Nurture the Next Gen’ Mentorship Programme aims to bring students and young tourism professionals together to build capability within the industry’s future workforce, enabling both parties to learn by sharing advice and experiences.
The Mentorship Programme will start on 1 October and finish on 29 October, with students paired with mentors from their region, where possible. They will benefit from a minimum of three sessions with their mentor to cover topics such as an overall introduction to the industry, areas of interest for the student, career pathways, and personal experience and advice.
Go with Tourism Programme Director, Matt Stenton, says it is exciting to add another initiative to their long list of youth-oriented projects. “Not only will we see benefits for students who want to seek out a career in tourism, the mentorship programme is an excellent opportunity for young professionals who want to broaden their leadership experience and skillset by becoming mentors. I hope this is something we can grow bigger and better in the years to come.”
Chair of the YoungTEC board, Zac Watson, says their team is excited to enhance the tourism industry by developing future leaders. “Partnerships are key in tourism right now, and the 2021 YoungTEC Board and our members are thrilled to be partnering with Go with Tourism on such an important initiative. We hope this helps to continue to ensure that the industry develops a steady flow of interested and passionate young people entering tourism. Our members have so much to give, and this gives them the platform to impart their knowledge, experience and connections to those who will really benefit from it”.
Students can apply for the mentorship programme up until 11.59PM on 24 September.
