Tim Read – winner of MasterChef New Zealand 2015 – is big on flavours. He cooks with what’s in season and is passionate about the process of field to table.
Last Friday he brought that passion to NZMA Sylvia Park, where he delivered an inspiring and informative Masterclass to a group of 20 NZMA cookery students.
Tim wowed them with a mouth-watering Kawai fillet with mirin consommé, and dished out plenty of tips and tricks for the budding chefs to try themselves.
His key message? Be passionate about cooking. You have to love what you do!
Tim is one of a host of well known, highly successful chefs who have cooked up a storm in NZMA Sylvia Park’s training kitchens. Other recent highlights have included Masterclasses with the famed Peter Gordon, and New Zealand’s Maori Queen of Cuisine, Anne Thorp.
According to NZMA Head of Faculty for Culinary Arts Jasbir Kaur, bringing some of New Zealand’s most celebrated chefs on campus for guest cooking slots is a great way to keep classes fresh and exciting.
“It is a real thrill for our students when they get to meet these top chefs. The Masterclasses teach them a lot, and also give them something to aspire to and strive for,” says Jasbir.
