Australian Rieslings have dominated the competition at the 2015 Global Riesling Masters.
Taylors was a particular standout, picking up four medals, including one gold and three silvers for its St Andrews Riesling in the £15-£20 category. The gold medal was awarded to the Taylors 2013 St Andrews Riesling, while silvers were awarded to the Taylors 2015 (to be released later this year), 2014 and 2012 St Andrews Riesling.
Other Australian standouts were De Bortoli Wines, which won a master award for its 2014 Yarra Valley Single Vineyard Section A7 Riesling in the £15–£20 category; Jacob’s Creek, winning a gold medal with its 2012 Steingarten Riesling in the £15-£20 category; Heirloom Vineyards, which won gold for its 2015 Eden Valley Riesling in the £20-£30 category and Gold for its 2014 Wonderland of the Eden Valley Riesling in the £30-£50 category.
The established panellist of judges included Miles Corish MW, Jonathan Pedley MW, Patricia Stefanowicz MW, Antony Moss MW, Patrick Schmitt MW, and Matthieu Longuere MS who tasted and scored 105 sparkling, dry and sweet rieslings in eight hours from producers all around the world.
The panel noted that Australian Rieslings dominated the dry riesling category in a majority of the price points and was noted as an area of greatness amongst the panellists.
Third generation managing director of Taylors, Mitchell Taylor, noted the medals for the St Andrews Rieslings across multiple vintages reflected the wine’s consistent style and quality year on year.
